Nell Avery is the pen name of the editor who runs Breathing Exercises. Nell is not a doctor or physiotherapist and doesn't give medical advice. Every page is written from the research and guidance it cites, every health claim is graded, and mistakes are corrected in the open.
Why a pen name?
The editor prefers to keep the site separate from their private life. Using one consistent name shows that the same person stands behind every page and is answerable for it. We would rather say that plainly than invent a biography.
What does Nell do?
Nell chooses what the site covers, reads the trials, Cochrane reviews and NHS, NICE and British Thoracic Society guidance behind each page, writes and edits the articles and exercise steps, assigns the evidence grades and deals with corrections. Nell has no financial links to any company that sells breathing apps, devices, courses or medicines.
Can Nell give medical advice?
No, and nothing on this site is medical advice. That is why every claim links to its source and why we are looking for a registered respiratory physiotherapist to review the health pages. AI tools help with research and drafting, and every figure is checked against its source before a page goes live.
How can you contact Nell?
Email hello@breathingexercises.uk. If you think something is wrong, a link to the evidence helps us check it quickly.
